Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex has been named one of the top Division II collegiate arenas in the nation by a National Collegiate Athletic Association fan survey on social media.
IUP’s Kovalchick Complex is in the company of facilities that include the Alaska Airline Center at the University of Alaska Anchorage; Northern State’s Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, South Dakota; and Gross Memorial Coliseum at Fort Hays State University.
Survey editors praised the IUP facility and the Ed Fry Arena as “one of the best in DII.” The listing about IUP also notes that “the entire center seemingly racks up new accolades every year, finding themselves on different top arena lists each passing season.”
Last year the Kovalchick Complex was named the third best Division II collegiate arena in the Nation by HERO Sports. HERO Sports provides news and rankings for every college sports team and covers all college sports news of NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA teams at all divisions.
“This is a great day for the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex,” said KCAC General Manager Andrew Thompson. “We are grateful to the NCAA and Crimson Hawks fans for recognizing the KCAC and the Ed Fry Arena with this honor. Our staff, coaches and athletic teams really come together to make our game-day experience the best it can be for all of our visitors.”
The Ed Fry Arena is home to IUP’s men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball.
“It truly is exciting for the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex to be recognized as one of the nation’s best, especially by our fans,” Sam Phillips, assistant vice president for Administration at IUP, said. “Congratulations to Andrew Thompson and the entire Kovalchick Complex team for achieving this noteworthy recognition.”
